The rules

• Respect: Judges’ decisions are final. 

• Conduct: Keep it positive and supportive — we’re here to encourage each other to shine.

• Restarts: Only if requested by a judge.

• Dress & Confidence Code: Wear what makes you feel wonderful and confident. Boots/shoes must be suitable for dancing. 

• For 2026, each duo and group category is capped at 20 entries. The first 20 registered duos and the first 20 registered groups will secure their spot.

• Time Limit: Duo and Group routines capped at 2:15. 

Categories & Dances

• Beginner dances:

  • The Buzzkill (Ben Murphy & Sascha Wolf)

  • Bigger Houses (Helen Parkyn)

• Improvers:

  • Heart Got Teeth (Danica DeVoe)

• Advanced:

  • Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop (Mark Paulino & Rob Fowler)

• Duo: Own-choice dance (must be published on Copperknob before 2026)

• Groups: Own-choice dance (minimum four dancers, published on Copperknob before 2026)

⏱️ Duo and Group routines must not exceed 2 minutes 15 seconds (2:15).
Timing begins at the first movement.
Please include your Spotify link (and start time if needed) with your entry.

Judging Criteria

We’re proud to welcome a supportive, experienced judging team:

• Phoenix Adamson – Teacher since 2014, known nationwide for instruction and socials

• Julie Walker – Ballet, Tap, Cheer, Musical Theatre, Instructor, Line Dance; a strong family legacy in NZ line dancing

• Paul Hawaikirangi (98cents) – Five-time national solo champion, performer and choreographer

• Kylah Ashwell (98cents) – NZ representative, award-winning duo dancer, known for performance and choreography

Scoring Criteria

• Solo: Timing (30) · Technique (30) · Presentation (30) · Precision (30)

• Duo/Groups: Timing (30) · Technique (30) · Presentation (30) · Synchronisation (30)

Judges will record scores after each performance using a shared spreadsheet. Results will be tallied at the end of the day, with all prizes presented at the closing ceremony.
